Alumnae Support Durham Beepball and Foundation

Beep baseball is the adaptive version of America's favorite pastime for the blind and visually impaired and has quickly evolved into a wide open competitive game.  Each year, new and improved training and coaching methods are introduced. Throughout the country, there are now many, many good players and teams. As time goes by, beep baseball will get bigger and better than it already is.

Organizing new teams to play competitive beep baseball is not a simple matter. More than one ingredient is necessary in molding a group of individuals into a coordinated unit. Three absolutes are essential:

  -  dedicated sighted help

  -  players

  -  reliable equipment

Absence of any one of these requirements is guaranteed frustration.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!

For the last few years the Chapel Hill/Durham Alumnae Chapter helped raise money for the Durham Sluggers organization. The Sluggers are comprised of players with various levels of vision impairment. The team practices weekly with games held on Saturdays throughout June and July. In late July, the season concludes with a NC/SC tournament. Your contributions will help with the team purchase new equipment as well as help offset travel costs to and from games. Helping Service For Sight

The Chapel Hill/Durham Alumnae Chapter currently participates in two Service for Sight programs. The first is the Campbell's Label for Education program which benefits the Delta Gamma Center for the Visually Impaired in Kansas City and the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impaintments in Saint Louis. In January 2008, we collected over 200 labels for the national program!

The other program, General Mills Box Tops for Education, helps support the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, NC. The school received 10 cents for every top submitted. This year the CH/D chapter was recongnized at the National Convention for the third highest submission of box tops!

With your help, we think it is extremely achievable for us to double what we collected last year! Simply start saving labels and clip box tops from the products you use everday. For a list of eligible products, print out the list from these links:

The Ronald McDonald House and DG

Each winter the CH/D Chapter volunteers to prepare a meal at the Ronald McDonald house in Chapel Hill. Please see the calendar for the next event. We are also assisting the students of Raleigh's Governor Morehead School for the Blind in collecting soda can tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. If you would like to help with this great cause please submit your soda tabs with your labels and/or box tops (see above).
